No Mum… Just Morning Light — A Quiet Pause Beneath the Ancient Stones

The morning light filtered softly through the trees, settling across the worn stones of Angkor Wat like a gentle promise. A small monkey sat alone near the temple steps, still and unusually quiet for that hour.

He looked toward the path where others had passed earlier, his eyes following movement that wasn’t there anymore. There was no distress, no sudden motion—just a lingering stillness that felt heavier than the air around him.

A breeze moved through the leaves, and he shifted slightly, pressing his hands against the warm stone as if grounding himself. In the distance, older monkeys moved with purpose, but he didn’t join them right away.

Instead, he stayed where he was, watching, waiting, adjusting to the space beside him that had changed.

Moments passed. Then, slowly, he stood.

Not hurried. Not uncertain. Just ready enough.

And with one last glance behind him, he stepped forward into the quiet rhythm of the forest morning, where everything continues—even after something small feels different.
